Comcast to offer Cell phone service...verizon to offer TV service

yes thats comcast- the cable provider slash phone provider slash broadband internet provider..in an effort to keep up with the telcos and to be able to say "quadruple play" instead of triple play on their tv commercials ... is launching a wireless service through a partnership with sprint nextel in two markets (for now) Boston and Portland...for now wireless access will be limitted to 4 handsets only..and you will be able to access your home enterntainment from your phone..(I think this is the only thing that will make the sale - since I can do this with other services like slinbox without having to pay a montly fee) so you can watch mobile TV channels, check e-mail and make unlimited calls from your cell phone to your Comcast Digital Voice home phone- they are definately pushing you to get that bundle and they are telling customers that too “to get the full value of Mobile Access service, it is best to have” a bundle including cable, Voice over Internet Protocol phone service and high-speed Internet along with the wireless service."
we'll see where this goes.. so a cable co offering wireless...what could be next? a telco offering cable tv?? att is launching IPTV in its second market.. locally verizon has the go to launch FiOS TV in my area.. so Im waiting to hear their intro offer and see if I ditch comcast completely out of my house since I now only have it for cable... got to love competition!! verizon is already a quadruple player..offering wireless, phone, internet and now tv...if their bundle packages are decent- i think they will take a nice chunck of customers - who doesnt like getting one bill for everything??

Live from NOKIA WORLD 06..

well in my dreams perhaps.. I wished I couldve made this but I ve traveled enough for the year..and Im happy to be home for the remainder of whats left of 06...however if I was to go anywhere it would be to amsterdam to check out the mobility event of the year - Nokia world ... check out the site to see the lastest on new unit releases and expos... there is alos an insder blog from the conference itself to give us an insider view

cingular's Music phone??? ha!

got to love them for at least trying to sell this new samsung "blackjack" phone as a music phone? well the XM capability is semi-cool but then again xm is so 2002..the phone itself reminds me too much of the moto Q runing Microsoft OS and we all know how much of a disaster that unit is.. and up to 1GB of memory!! wow thats impressing.. not! want a music phone...?? look at the nokia n91 with 4-8GB internal memory....
enough bashing on cingular..after all they are my provider.. I was impressed when I saw the cingular source site where you can get a bunch of things - ringback tones, mp3s, streaming radio, videos, etc - its actually a bit overwhelming even for me.. so I guess you have to be a 17 year old wired on mountain dew...

Coupons on your cell phones

one of the things I always forget to take to the store with me is those damm coupons that looked like such a great deal...solution for us mobile geeks? we have our cell phone with us all the time.. (ok maybe only some of us do) - cellfire is a free coupon service that sends coupons to your cell phone... it only has a limitted amount of companies listed..but its still a pretty cool idea..how to make it cooler? gsm triangulation for the application to know my location and send me coupons based on that! (since gps embedded cellphones arent wide avail yet) .. i really wished there were more (any at this point) services using gsm triangulation...

record an album & music video on your cell phone..

the days of having to pay top $$ for time at a studio were over when MAC's became recording studios.. but now you can even do it on your cellphone!! Omri Levy's EP "about blank" is the first album recorded on a cell phone.. it was recorded on a nokia n80 using Alon MP3 dictaphone which can also be used to record record lectures, conversations, interviews and phone calls in hiqh quality audio format..
once you are done with the album then move right ahead to making that MTV hit music video - like rob dickinson who filmed his on a nokia n93
ever since becoming a nokia enthusiast - from the motorola side ..I have been nothing but impressed with them and not just their phones (multimedia computers) but the applications for them.. they are really pushing the envelope..with applications like the nokia podcasting, and built in SIP client

Talkplus 2.0 ?? more like talkLess 1.0

I had read about talkplus on a few blogs and all the hype of it being a "voice 2.0" application..
so i decided to check it out and test the beta out.. so what exactly is "2.0" about it???
I signed up and downloaded the java application on the e61.. while the application is stable and looks good.. I was not impressed with the fact that it does not work with your existing address book- therefore I would have to enter all my contacts into this application again!
a similar application that Ive tested before was minowireless- for cheap intl calls, which works very much like talkplus...I think I wouldve been more impressed a few months ago.. but now with truphone on the e61 as my mobile voip client- I could not go back to using applications such as these..

the next version of the E61?

oohhh boy.. already? damm it! ..i Just got the e61 a few months ago and have been saying how this phone will keep me happy for a few years..but of course that was until i read about the rumors of the next e61/62 versions...even its still a rumor the pics look pretty good to be a fake.. and not sure if anything has changed on the phone other than a camera, new sofpad, new buttons..Im guessing it will be runing on the s60 feature 1 pack..much like the n95.. anywho we'll just have to wait and see about this rumor and the price.. but im happy w\ my e61

"Your Mobile Phone should be Free" - Google

as most of my readers know, Im a big pusher-believer that "talking" on a phone/cell phone is soon to be (if not already) completly free - such an simple application should be..if anything it will become an add on to something else such as data...and when I mean"talking" for free I mean free- on a regular phone, or cell phone - not attached to a pc in your office or home...we are already doing this with applications that use skype or others to make free calls... one example of free cell phone service is Blyk , a FREE UK mobile operator for young people that is funded by advertisment... but here in the states - the player that i think could get-will get into this space easily is no other thang Google.. they've been making a name for themselves and getting into a lot of peoples cell phones by offering things like google map, gmail, sms. they recently introduced AdWords for mobile search service.. and then you got googles CEO, Eric Schmidt saying things like "your mobile phone should be free" my prediction?
google's free wi-fi goes nationwide - free access everywhere - and introduces the GPhone-or reintroduces Gtalk as a device loaded with the app.. the device would be a dual handset that will handle voip over wifi and gsm as well..so if you choose to use a cell phone connection instead..both would be funded by advertisments....sounds like crazy talk right? only time will tell...who knows soon enough you may be hearing this when you make that call "This call has been brought to you by Jiffy Lube"

match-myspace for cell phones?

Nokia's tag line -"connecting people" takes a new meaning with applications like Nokia Sensor
this free "see and be seen" application from nokia uses existing bluetooth technology to see and connect with other Sensor cell phones within 10 meters, your phone can 'sense' them and you can see their profiles and send them messages...talk about mobile flirting..you are at a bar and your phone spots another "sensor" user - you check out her pic and profile -and message away .. you could say this is the mobile version of myspace.com as well since you can customize your profile (upload your own picture, enter details about you, customized the look of it and it even lets you do file sharing) your cell phone number is never revealed- because you are using a screen name like application - this app has been around for a bit already but I recently heard about it when doing some research - I had a similar idea for an application like this that would use bluetooth or GSM triangulation for a presence app more widely available for cell phones that run java though...unfortunately I couldnt test this application myself since it runs on S60 2nd edition phones only..so if you are one of those check it out and let me know how it works

Play hard -- Cell phone Games

there are tons of websites selling games for cell phones..but MobGames is the first one Ive come accrossed that actually looks good.. and the price isnt bad either 1.5 pounds per week if you subscribe for unlimitted games? cant be that.. Im not much of a gamer on cell phones but these games make me want to take advantage of the large screen on the e61
update: unfortunately mobgames 1.50 subscription only works in the UK.

Mark your territory

what do you get when you mix a Wiki functionality and the all mighty Google maps? - Wikimapia a Web 2.0 project to describe-tag the whole planet.. I even tagged my house (point mouse over square in map above) as if that wasnt cool enough.. you can view wikimapia places on your cell phone!!!! its one of the features of Mobile GMaps other cool features include FON maps and subway maps (DC too!)..it can also connect to a gps receiver over bluetooth..it displays google maps, but you also have the option of others..even though I use google maps already I like mobile gmaps because of these cool features..the application runs on cell phones that support J2ME(Java) which most do already.. now you have no excuse to get lost..

Your SIM card with 1GB of Memory!!

some cell phones out there dont have an expansion slot to be able to add memory via SD or miniSD.. smartphones and some of the new phones have expansion slots but sometimes the memory cards allowed are limited to a certain amount of memory like 512mb...
samsung just released news about a SIM card which will have 1GB of memory in it..this is great news that I even had to DiGG it for all cell phone enthusiasts because it increases the amount of memory we are carying around.. for example right now I have a 2GB sd which is the max for my phone but with this SSIM I could easily expand to 3GB w\out a problem.. I give mad kudos to samsung for this... very nice

GMAIL on the Go!

Google strikes again... on my favorite area- the mobile world..so even though I would say they were a bit behind players like yahoo when it came to the cell phone world.. they know how to catch up.. they just released a Gmail client for cell phones..(Depending on your phone model, you might have a choice between a web-based version and a downloadable application.) it even lets you open attachments including photos, word docs, and PDF files...this would be even better if they added the calendar feature to it.. but even alone as a email client is great..it worked great on the E61.. if you have a smartphone and dont want to have your personal gmail push to you...this is a good way to check your personal email when you want..google already offers some mobile tools...if you havent seen what google offers you should definately look here I couldnt live without google maps..
